Adopt A Working Barn / Shop Cat

You provide shelter, food, and water — they provide effective rodent control. Our Working Cats are ideal for barns and outbuildings when indoor life isn’t a fit.

Typical reasons a cat may qualify:

  • Too feisty for an indoor home
  • Shy or fearful of people
  • Inappropriate litter-box habits (after medical causes have been ruled out)

How it works

  • The cat must remain kenneled inside the barn 24/7 for a mandatory 4-week adjustment period before release.
  • During those four weeks please feed fresh food daily (canned food is recommended to help the cat settle), provide fresh water, and scoop the litter daily.
  • After the four weeks, the cat may be released to begin working on rodent control.

Why the kennel period?

This 4-week transition greatly reduces the risk the cat will run away after release and increases the chance the barn becomes their permanent home.

Other notes

  • We try to keep colonies and siblings together, so please be flexible about the number of cats you’re willing to adopt.

By adopting a Working Cat, you agree that:

  • Fresh food and water will be provided daily for the life of the cat.
  • The cat will live in a four-sided well-insulated building.
  • The cat’s building is far from a busy road.
  • There are no coyotes or other predators frequenting your property.
  • A cat shelter will be provided for inclement or cold weather.
  • If the cat becomes ill or injured, you will seek veterinary care.

All of our cats are spayed/neutered and have received rabies vaccination and ear tip, along with initial flea and worm treatment!

$50 is our suggested donation per cat to cover their veterinary care and supplies.
